All this work brings to mind the story by Mark Twain about how Tom Sawyer finagled his friends into whitewashing the fence for his Aunt so he didn’t have to do the work. Unlike Tom, we’ll be there painting the handrails, scrubbing the floors and any other number of chores to make the old place shine again.
We sure could use your help and companionship while we do this labor of love. Everyone has that special something they excel at which, when combined with others, makes change progress faster and more well-rounded. We are all volunteers with the same vision of making the Gilmer County Historical Society a productive non-profit organization. We are committed to the preservation of our Appalachian culture, gathering old photos and other documents to aid in protecting the stories and traditions, and safely housing the arts and artifacts.
